Ethical Materials And Sourcing

We conserve the planet and wish all things to flourish, so we are economically, environmentally and socially responsible. We have done in-depth research and make sure that at every stage of production — from design, sourcing metals, stones and fabrics, employing artisans and jewellers to packaging and gift selection — we follow fair trade principles, care for the environment and use local, Balinese, ethical, recycled materials.

For Jewellery

1. We understand all the ethical complexities involved in gemstone mining. That's why we order all our gems from a Balinese supplier who has a production facility in India that strictly follows the principles of fair trade and fair wages. It employees only work with ethically mined natural materials and they oppose child and forced labour
   
2. We use 100% recycled silver. This way, we avoid new mining and reduce waste. In addition, we give a chance to earn money to local jewellers who have meager incomes: they collect the silver dust that accumulates on their tables, melt it down and create new jewellery for us from this recycled silver. 
3. We recycle every bit of waste during the process be it, metal dust, papers from prints and packaging, food waste (composting), etc.
4. We have taken a vow not to use plastic in the production process, and we keep it that way.
5. Our jewellers tend to work from home. We have chosen artisans who are struggling to provide for their families. Not only do we pay them a good wage, but we have also set up a fund that takes care of their children's education, medicine, entertainment, gifts during local festivals.
6. The jewellery workshop we work with is set up by a mother of three who herself believes in the power of female empowerment. Her team is 90% female and we appreciate how she supports her team during the pandemic.

For Cloths

1. As in jewellery production, we only work with female founders of the business. The clothes are designed and sewn in workshops that employ almost 100% of women who are raising children on their own.
2. Artisans receive a decent wage for their work. Mutual respect and sisterly support prevail in the team.
3. We carefully select the eco-materials from which we sew to minimise the negative impact on our planet. Our supplier is FSC certified, guaranteeing that the wood they use comes from forests they care for, conserving biodiversity, reducing a load of machinery on the soil, using only rainwater for irrigation and supporting local communities. Eco-viscose, from which we sew clothes, decomposes in 6 weeks in normal compost.

Raw Materials

Jewellery:

Gemstones: 

Our gemstone supplier guarantees that the stones are mined and treated ethically. We use entirely natural stones, without colour enhancement, to preserve their natural beauty and strength. Each stone is unique, and the shades of colour can vary slightly, making your jewellery piece unique. We use both cabochons — stones that are cut so that they have a smooth convex surface without facets — and faceted stones.

Metals

22kt Gold Vermeil

We use 22-carat gold of the highest quality for our gold plating work. Jewellers often apply just a thin layer of 2.5-micron gold. But we coat sterling silver in 5 microns thickness with 22-carat so that you can enjoy your jewellery for a longer period of time with the same lustre and shine of the gold. All our gold plating jewellery is superior vermeil.

Recycled Sterling Silver

We use recycled 925 sterling silver. It is of the same high quality as freshly mined 925 sterling silver. Its main difference from new silver is that it is collected from dust from jewellery works. And this is our conscious choice. This reduces the load on our planet's scarce mines and provides additional income for the local jewellers who collect this silver dust. The combination of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% alloys allows the jewellery to be durable and last a very long time. Our metals are nickle and lead-free.

Clothing:

Cotton 

Cotton is a natural material that has been used by people for thousands of years, thanks to its ability to absorb moisture and be breathable yet warm and cosy to the body. Most children's clothing brands use cotton because of its hypoallergenic properties.

We use organic recycled cotton. This is again our conscious choice. As some brands have involved child labour during the harvest process, we only use supplier companies with a fair trade certificate. Growing cotton requires large quantities of water. So our choice minimises the impact on our planet and reduces the waste on landfills.

FSC Certified Eco Viscose.

We have chosen an FSC certified eco-brand for many reasons. All wood comes from sustainably managed forests, this means that the grove is only irrigated with rainwater, which conserves up to 900 litres of water per garment. Other key differences from conventional timber harvesting are low greenhouse gas emissions, rapid natural decomposition in compost, and the use of closed-loop production processes which ensures no chemical is exposed to nature. In addition, we can even trace the entire history of the garment — from when it was planted to when the garment was delivered to the customer.

We like this fabric because its breathable, has antibacterial nature, and  it absorbs 50% more moisture than cotton, it is very soft, light and pleasant to the body.
